Dark Moon project specifically addresses the social epidemic that leads to sexually exploited and trafficked children. This Joyful Orange project focuses on the physical, psycho-social and mental challenges faced by these youth.
It is our perspective that unless physical needs and stability can be established for these youth, efforts in the other two areas will be mitigated. Food, clothing, shelter and education/job training are included in the list of physical necessities for these children. Therefore major efforts are concentrated in either providing, or supporting those organizations that are providing, physical necessities.
Equally important in the work of this project is to establish and offer opportunities for youngsters to form sound nurturing bonds with family or other adults and elders. Supportive and trusting attachments are the building blocks for children to create constructive, fulfilling and happy adult lives. Joyful Orange’s Dark Moon Project either establishes programs that yield positive results, or supports those organizations already working successively in creating these bonds.
In addition to wreaking havoc on the physical and psycho-social lives of its victims, this social epidemic perpetuates ill-placed stigma and erroneous dogmatic beliefs about those caught up in it. The efforts of Joyful Orange will be unceasing in clarifying and de-stigmatizing what is and is not true about this specific social epidemic and its victims. In so doing, healing can happen and progress toward a world without sexual exploitation and trafficking of children can be made.
