In April 2008, Joyful Orange’s Raise Me Up Nepal Project finished rebuilding substandard school facilities of Pipravitta, Nepal, a village of 10,000 located in the Sarlahi region.
Joyful Orange’s Lynn Murray traveled to India and Nepal in 2006. In Kathmandu, Lynn met Shyam Kshatri, a local former teacher, who shared Lynn’s vision to make a difference for the village children of Nepal through education. In late 2007, their vision began to actualize in Pipravitta.
Pipravitta’s school facilities limited attendance to 100 students. The students, who sat on overcrowded benches, had no books and few communal supplies. Buildings were in poor repair and children were only able to attend school for six months of the year because of the leaky thatch roof. The school had no electricity, water, or heat.
The work on the school was done by the local residents and was coordinated by Shyam and Lynn. The new school will now comfortably house 200 students, making it possible for more Pipravitta children, and those from neighboring villages, to attend. In addition, the school is equipped with a water well and power sources. Books and school supplies are also now supplied for the children.
The newly named Trishakti Education Care Home was Joyful Orange’s first successful solo project.
