Tibet
Linda Whildin, a key volunteer member of Joyful Orange Productions, traveled to Tibet in the fall of 2007. While touring, Linda saw a group of children walking. When she asked the guide about the children, he told her that they were walking to a school two miles away from their home village. On that fateful day, Linda vowed to make a difference in the lives of Tibetan village children.
Upon her return, Joyful Orange contacted Tamdin Wagdu, the executive director and co-founder of the Tibetan Village Project (www.tibetanvillageproject.org), eager to support their effort to raise resources for Tibetan children.
In 2007, thanks largely to the efforts of Linda Whildin, JOP was able to raise $1,400 to provide winter coats for all of the students of a Tibetan school.
Joyful Orange’s Raise Me Up – TIBET also raised $1,400 for a village greenhouse in 2008, which will extend the growing season in the mountainous area and function as a more sustainable source of food and other resources.
In 2009, along with assisting in providing school supplies in village schools, Raise Me UP – TIBET donated funds to support a teacher for one year for a school in the village of Kham.
To date in 2010, our project raised approximately $2,000 to assist Tibetan Village Project in supplying family tents needed as an interim survival stop-gap for residents of Yushu, Tibet. This area was devastated as a result of the April, 2010 earthquake. All homes were lost in this village of approximately 77,000 people. In order to potentially survive the high mountain winters, the tents are a must.
